Position: PART-TIME MARKETING ASSISTANT - CITY MANAGEMENT - COMMUNICATIONS (JOB NO. 231920)

Minimum Training & Experience

A bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, journalism, public or business administration and three years communications experience, including graphic design skills. The equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered. Position reports to the Communications Manager.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Considerable knowledge and proficiency in writing, editing and presenting technical, persuasive and creative copy for news releases, brochures, reports and related print, broadcast and electronic media.

• Knowledge of web content management systems, including WordPress.

• Ability to effectively communicate and present information in a clear and concise manner, both orally and in writing.

• Ability to assist in the development of multi-media presentations; knowledge of video production helpful.

• Ability to exercise sound judgment and make sound decisions concerning public information transactions.

• Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers. Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills.

Specific Duties

• Researches and writes news releases.

• Directs the production of publications as assigned. Writes materials for and directs the layout of assigned informational materials such as newsletters, bulletins, pamphlets, directories, and posters.

• Supports audio-visual productions under the directions of the Communications Manager.

• Operates various cameras, audio-visual equipment, recorders and other production equipment.

• On selected topics, researches materials and writes speeches and position papers for City officials.

• Performs graphic design (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, PowerPoint).

• Interprets City programs internally and externally, including technical areas particular to the City.

• Identifies potential public relations problems and advises Communications Manager of appropriate preventative actions.

• Coordinates designated ceremonies, press conferences and other events or special projects.

• Under the direction of the Communications Manager, oversees City use of contracted vendors.

• Performs website management functions for the City.

• Contributes to social media content.

• Attends various meetings as required; attends classes, workshops, seminars, etc., to maintain job knowledge and skills.

• Performs all other duties as may be assigned to meet organizational needs.
