Position: HOUSING COORDINATOR - HOUSING AND NEIGHBORHOOD SERVICES
  Salary: $38,521 - $55,848 Per Year

Minimum Training & Experience

Graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in finance, accounting or business, plus two years of experience working with lenders and other financial agencies. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required, including Word and Excel. The equivalent combination of acceptable education, training and experience may be considered.

Must have or be able to obtain HUD and TAHC Housing Counselor certification within one year of employment.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Considerable knowledge of all aspects of the home purchase/homeownership process.

• Knowledge of city, county, state and federal laws applicable to home purchase.

• Knowledge of foreclosure laws, refinance and modification guidelines and other resources available to clients.

• Ability to analyze data and communicate effectively in oral and written form.

• Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with coworkers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers. Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills.

Specific Duties

• Counsel and guide clients through home purchase process: budgeting, saving, enhancing credit scores, working with realtors and lenders, etc.

• Provide post-purchase, budgeting and default counseling for clients experiencing financial difficulties.

• Negotiate with lenders and other financial institutions to prevent foreclosure through modifications, refinances and other industry-accepted methods.

• Monitor client files to insure HUD, HOME and Housing Development Corporation guidelines are followed.

• Partner with agencies such as HUD, SC State Housing, SC Help, Master-in-Equity Court, etc. to assist clients in mitigating default.

• Review legal documents to ensure favorable results to clients and for required standards.

• Act as a liaison between client and lender/foreclosing attorney to ensure client maintains home.

• Assist other agencies and City departments/divisions with housing issues.

• Assist with monthly first time homebuyers class.

• Make presentations on home-buying and foreclosure to various groups as requested.

• Performs all other duties as may be assigned to meet organizational needs.
