Position: WATER/SEWER SUPERINTENDENT - WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATIONS - UTILITIES
  Salary: $62,121 - $97,136 Per Year

Minimum Training & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in environmental or civil engineering or related field supplemented by five years of experience in public utility, planning, operations and/or service, including two to three years of this experience in a supervisory role. 

A valid driver’s license and a South Carolina Biological Wastewater Treatment Operator B license is required with the ability to obtain an A license within one year.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Knowledge of biological wastewater treatment plant operations, permits, and requirements.

• Knowledge of environmental laboratory operations, certifications, and requirements.

• Knowledge of industrial pretreatment programs, permits, and requirements.

• Ability to communicate with a variety of people, including the general public, engineers, developers, contractors, and other interested parties regarding the department plans, programs, projects, and services.

• Ability to work effectively despite occasional exposure to heat/cold, odors, fumes, gases, smoke, noise, wetness, humidity, electric currents, machinery hazards, dust, vibrations, pathogenic substances, toxic agents, etc. Reacts calmly and quickly in emergency situations.

• Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers. Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills.

Specific Duties

• Directs, supervises, and coordinates duties of assigned professional, supervisory, maintenance, and support staff. Offers assistance and guidance as needed.

• Ensures division’s compliance with policies and procedures, standards of quality and safety, and all applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations.

• Ensures adequate training and professional development of staff, including the implementation of training practices and policies and division’s safety programs. Performs general administrative/clerical duties as required.

• Prepares and reviews a variety of documents, including reports, records, permits, agreements, engineering plans, data tables, technical manuals, budgets, etc.

• Performs all other duties as may be assigned to meet organizational needs.
