Minimum Training & Experience

An Associate’s Degree or specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of two years of college in paramedic and/or related field. A minimum of two years of responsible experience and training in developing and implementing medical programs or closely related field is required. The equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered.

A valid driver’s license is required.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES

National Registry Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic

Instructorship including, but not limited to:

ACLS Instructor Certification

PALS Instructor

PHTLS Instructor CPR/First Responder/BLS Instructor

Other related instructor courses

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Considerable knowledge of modern medical training methods and administration.

• Considerable ability to plan, coordinate, and implement an effective medical service training program.

• Skill in the use of computers and other technology to produce effective training programs.

• Ability to develop medical programs to meet OSHA, DHEC & other training requirements.

• Ability to prepare a variety of documents inclusive of tests, practical exams, training materials, training records, reports, schedules, memos, and correspondence.

• Ability to express ideas clearly, orally and in writing; ability to follow written and oral instructions quickly and correctly.

• Ability to perform work independently with limited supervision.

• Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers. Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills.

Specific Duties

• Serves the department as Medical Training Officer; plans, develops, and conducts training programs: Recruit Training, Certification Training, and Specialized Medical Training.

• Develops lesson plans, training manuals and study guides; oversees training program evaluations and participant testing. Coordinates local and State training resources and equipment.

• Maintains and coordinates department’s medical training records; coordinates with National Registry & South Carolina DHEC to ensure all required training hours are in compliance & standards are met annually.

• Serves the department as Quality Assurance Officer; oversees the department’s medical reporting program and conducts required Q&A for medical reports. Submits administrative reports and tracks departmental demographics.

• Serves the department as liaison with the South Carolina DHEC; coordinates local and regional training to ensure all minimum requirements are met for personnel to obtain recertification hours and modern medical training.

• Supervises the testing and maintenance of Fire Department medical equipment; makes recommendations and prepares specifications for the procurement of medical equipment.

• Attends trainings, conferences, seminars and meetings to update knowledge and maintain required Medical Instructor certifications. Maintains National Registry Paramedic certification.

• Performs related work as assigned.
