Position: ELECTRONIC SERVICE TECH HELPER (SUBSTATION) - UTILITIES - ELECTRIC

Minimum Training & Experience

A high school diploma supplemented by course work in electricity, preferably experience performing electrical work. The equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered.

A valid South Carolina driver's license is required.  A CDL is preferred and the ability to obtain one within six months is required.

NOTE:   Position Requires Rotating and Emergency Call Duty

 

 

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Some knowledge of practices, methods, and tools of the maintenance, electrical, and electronic trade.

• Some knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions in electrical and various mechanical trades.

• Ability to do strenuous manual work under varying weather conditions.

• Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers. Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills.

Specific Duties

• This is a helper position on a two person substation crew. Primary duty is to assist the substation technician in daily work.

• This is manual and limited skilled work in providing varied services in the electric field.

• Assist in performing maintenance and installation of fiber networking systems including computers, telephones, traffic signals, Wi-Fi and substation equipment.

• Assist in making minor repairs to traffic signals, load control receivers, metering and electrical substations;

• Makes minor repairs to electrical equipment, electrical wiring and fixtures.

• Operates maintenance equipment, trenchers, bucket trucks and concrete saws.

• Work in close proximity to voltages up to 25kv by following required safety procedures.

• Assists in underground locating, meter shop and generator maintenance.

• Performs all other duties as may be required to meet organizational needs.
