Position: MAINTENANCE MECHANIC IV – PARKS, RECREATION, & TOURISM –
  Salary: $19.45-$28.19 Per Hour

Minimum Training & Experience

A high school diploma and five to seven years of experience in the general maintenance field with electrical, plumbing and irrigation system emphasis. Two to three years supervisory experience preferred.  The equivalent combination of education, training and related work experience may be considered.

A valid S.C. driver's license is required. A licensed electrician strongly preferred.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Knowledge of irrigation system operation and repair.
• Knowledge of the types and uses of common hand tools, materials, and standard equipment used in general maintenance, construction, and repair.
• Knowledge of the precautions necessary to work safely with and around mechanized equipment.
• Ability to estimate materials and job costs.
• Ability to understand and carry out specific oral instructions.
• Ability to read construction plans, specifications and schematics.
• Ability to perform basic computer data entry.
• Willingness and ability to perform manual tasks involving physical strength and endurance under variable weather conditions.
• Ability to lead, instruct and supervise the work of subordinate unskilled or semiskilled employees performing various grounds maintenance task, and to obtain effective results.
• Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers.  Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills.

 

Specific Duties

• Supervises and participates in the maintenance and repair of plumbing and irrigation systems.
• Participates in work of assigned crew; operates automotive, maintenance, and construction equipment; instructs and trains crew members; performs the more skilled tasks, and uses specialized machine and power tools.
• Keeps various work and employee records and prepares reports of assigned activities.
• Performs light carpentry and electrical maintenance and repair.
• Operates trucks, tractors and related equipment.
• Performs routine maintenance on tools and equipment.
• Assists with special events as needed.
• Assist with contractors and contracts.
• Performs all other duties as may be assigned to meet organizational needs.
