Position: LINE CREW HELPER - UTILITIES - ELECTRIC

Minimum Training & Experience

A high school diploma, preferably supplemented by special course work in electricity, and some experience in work providing a familiarity with electrical line work.  The equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered.

A valid South Carolina driver's license is required.  A CDL is preferred and the ability to obtain one within six months is required.

NOTE:  Position Requires Rotating and Emergency Call Duty

The OSHA Maximum weight capacity for our bucket truck is 300 lbs. The required 60 lb. liner and 20 lbs. of tools weigh a total of 80 lbs. Therefore, the safe employee weight would be a maximum of 220 lbs. to perform the essential functions of this position.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in line construction and maintenance work.

• Knowledge of the principles of electric theory as applied to electrical circuits and wire systems.

• Ability to do strenuous manual work under varying weather conditions.

• Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers.  Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills.

Specific Duties

• This is manual and limited skilled work in providing varied services to an electric line crew.

• Work in close proximity to voltages up to 25kv by following required safety procedures for the purpose of substation operation, and main circuit feeder switching.

• Assists in underground locating, meter shop and generator maintenance.

• Assists with installation and maintenance of traffic signals and school flashing zones.

• Assists in erecting power distribution lines, including poles, cables, wire, and auxiliary equipment.

• Operates line truck and related equipment.

• Climbs poles and attaches cross arms to poles; nails, screws, or bolts insulators, lightning arresters, transformers, street lights, and other auxiliary equipment to pole structure or building. 

• Performs all other duties as may be required to meet organizational needs.
