Position: CITY SOLICITOR - MUNICIPAL COURT - CITY MANAGEMENT
  Salary: $30.73 - $44.48 Per Hour

Minimum Training & Experience

Practicing attorney at law currently and a member in good standing of the S.C. Bar Association.  Five years experience in the practice of law and a familiarity with the basic procedures of Summary Courts and three years progressively responsible management experience.  The equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered.

NOTE:  This position is for a part time period as needed.

 

 

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

 

• Thorough knowledge of criminal law and procedure with particular emphasis on the laws of South Carolina and Code of Ordinances for the City of Rock Hill.
 
• Knowledge of supervisory, managerial and administrative principles and concepts as it relates to directing and supervising staff.
 
• Ability to deal tactfully and skillfully with officials, attorneys, prisoners, and others contacted in the course of court operations.
 
• Ability to practice law competently in a Municipal and appellate setting.
 
• Ability to maintain organizational standards, develop goals and coordinate the most effective use of personnel.
 
• Ability to present oral and written opinions, comments, administrative documents, and reports clearly and concisely.
 
• Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers.  Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills.  

 

 
Specific Duties
This list is not exhaustive.
 
• Acts as lead attorney and one of three prosecuting attorneys for City Court criminal cases.  Calls cases on the court docket and decides which cases require jury trials.
 
• Supervises, instructs, assigns, reviews and plans the week of the Solicitor’s Office.  Manages personnel issues, evaluates performance and recommends personnel actions, awards and salary increases.
 
• Serves an in-house legal resource role on specified issues.
 
• Keeps abreast of changes in laws, rules, and regulations.
 
• Performs administrative and all other duties as may be assigned to meet organizational needs.
