Position: AIRPORT MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST – CITY MANAGEMENT – AIRPORT DIVISION (JOB NO. 1-2021)
  Salary: $20.42 – $21.44 PER HOUR

Minimum Training & Experience

Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by three (3) years previous experience and/or training involving general maintenance labor, technician, maintenance equipment operator or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

Must possess valid Driver’s License.

• Ability to utilize a variety of advisory data and information, such as FAA Advisory Circulars, the airports Pavement Management Plan, Wildlife Management Plan, SWPPP, SPCC, rules and regulations, City ordinances, codes and policy manuals.

• Ability to use an air band radio and communicate with aircraft and ground operations when duties must be performed on taxiways and the runway.

• Ability to understand airport operations and schedule maintenance activities with minimal impact to airport operations.

• Ability to operate a vehicle on aircraft parking aprons, taxiways and the runway in a safe manner.

• Ability to calculate decimals and percentages; ability to perform mathematical operations with fractions; ability to compute discount, interest, profit and loss, ratio and proportion; ability to calculate surface areas, volumes, weights, and measures.

• Ability to lift and/or exert force up to fifty (50) pounds.

• Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers. Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills.

Specific Duties

• Coordinates, supervises and performs maintenance activities performed on airfield grounds, pavements, lighting and signage, fencing and gates, airport facilities and other equipment.

• Participates in the airport watch program and follows other security procedures as required by airport rules and regulations.

• Coordinates work performed by contractors.

• Responds to customer inquiries concerning airport operations and maintenance.

• Operates vehicles and equipment in a safe manner. Performs preventative maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment and coordinates other maintenance and repairs as necessary.

• Removes Foreign Object Debris (FOD) from the Air Operations Area (AOA) and other areas of the airport.

• Performs grounds maintenance, i.e., mowing, weed eating, edging, blowing, pruning, planting, trimming, and sodding.

• Performs painting, cleaning maintenance and repair of airport property, structures, and facilities, i.e., gates, fences, floodlights, airfield lighting, signage and buildings.

• Conducts airfield self-inspections and implement day-to-day activities of the Pavement Management Plan.

• Performs day-to-day activities outlined in the airports Wildlife Management Plan (WMP), Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and Spill Prevention and Countermeasure Control Plan (SPCC).

• Prepares a variety of written reports that may include time sheets, maintenance project updates, inventories, self-inspection forms, purchase card statements, and wildlife and storm water reports.

• Purchases tools, supplies and equipment necessary for duties and responsibilities.

• Utilizes various manual, gas, and handheld electrical tools and equipment in installing or repairing facilities, equipment, fences, or related structures, i.e., saws, welders, drills, hammers, shovels.

• Responds to operational and aircraft emergencies.

• Acts as airport representative during weekends and holidays.

• Performs all other duties as may be assigned to meet organizational needs.

Hours includes weekends and holidays.
