Position: INSURANCE AND SAFETY SPECIALIST - FINANCE - (JOB NO. 481920)
  Salary: $19.45 - $28.19 Per Hour DOQ

Minimum Training & Experience

Associate degree in business, insurance or related field with a minimum of four years risk management/safety experience or closely related field.  Working knowledge of worker’s compensation and general liability claims processing and evaluation as well as coordination of employee safety program and standards. Demonstrated analytical skills to investigate customer claims and assess potential liability and/or responsibility. The equivalent combination of related education, training and related work experience may be considered. 

NOTE:  Valid driver's license required with acceptable driving record.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Considerable knowledge in Outlook and Microsoft Office suite as well as other specialized software to complete associated work.
 
Skill in providing information, guidance or assistance to people that directly facilitates task accomplishment; may give instructions or assignments to helpers or assistants.
 
Skill in mathematic functions. Must be proficient with excel and the calculation of ratios, rates and percentages.
 
Skill in oral and written communication.
 
Ability to work under general supervision, independently developing work methods, and processes. 
 
Ability to assess safety risks and recommend solutions and develop safety programs.
 
Ability to work in an unstable environment with frequent and significant changes in conditions. Must be capable of evaluating a situation and presenting evaluation and recommendations to others, including superiors.
 
Ability to identify and evaluate risks; coordinates Workers' Compensation program and Return to Work program.
 
Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be able to work under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines.
Specific Duties
Evaluates safety risks for the City by conducting site visits and performing data analytics; makes recommendations and supports the development of safety programs.
 
Investigates alleged damage claims by going on-site to assess the allegations and make recommendations to department management as to the City’s responsibility. 
 
Manages and adjusts damage and liability claims.
 
Maintains correspondence and direct contact with insurance adjusters and employees, as applicable. 
 
Responsible for long range goals, planning and methodologies.  Decision-making is the main focus of the job, which affects the entire organization and surrounding population. 
 
Assists in the coordination of the Workers' Compensation program and Return to Work program.
 
Maintains tracking program for all claims and OSHA 300 Log. 
 
Verifies bills, post revenues, and expenditures. 
 
Assists with the annual insurance renewal processes to include monitoring and securing insurance for all City vehicles. 
 
Assists with the management of the employee certification and training programs and maintaining certification status on all employees for various programs.
 
Assists Risk and Safety Manager with monthly reports, annual payroll audits, annual budget, completion of annual reinsurance policy application for City; manual updates; prepares annual permit renewal application for Underground Storage Tanks; prepares annual renewal application and submits to SC Department of Motor Vehicles (Certificate Renewal).
 
Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, outside agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers. Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills.
 
Performs all other duties as may be required to meet organizational needs.
