Position: MAINTENANCE MECHANIC II - PUBLIC WORKS - (JOB NO. 7818)

Minimum Training & Experience

A high school diploma supplemented by one to two years of experience in a fabrication shop repairing and painting dumpsters or general maintenance, welding and repair work. The equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered.

A valid Commercial Driver's License is required.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Knowledge of and skill in the fabrication, maintenance, and repairing and painting dumpsters; knowledge of and the ability to install dumpsters; skill in performing other general maintenance duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of the standard tools, materials, and practices of the trade; skill in the care and use of required tools and equipment.

• Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.

• Ability to perform mechanical repairs of equipment as needed.

• Ability to use independent judgment in performing routine tasks.

• Ability to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations.

• Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public and all other internal and external customers. Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills.

Specific Duties

• Maintains the Public Works fabrication shop, the storage yard and keeps tools and equipment clean and in working order.

• Delivers dial-a-dumpsters to City customers.

• Fills in on the sanitation routes as needed.

• Completes daily assignments from supervisor; performs various work depending on assigned division.

• Cleans and maintains pressure washer equipment, hoses, spray wands and washes down equipment.

• Completes daily records of dial-a-dumpsters, roll out containers, recycle bins that are delivered.

• Performs welding repairs for the fleet maintenance shop on City equipment and vehicles.

• Performs vehicle inspections before starting a route and after it is completed and turns in the inspection sheets to the supervisor.

• Operates heavy equipment on city streets and highways; operates dumpster delivery truck, commercial front end loader, automated side loader, grappler, automated leaf vacuum truck, wheel loader, rear loading garbage truck, recycling truck, fork lift etc.

• Performs all other duties as may be assigned to meet organizational needs.
