Position: CREW SUPERVISOR – PUBLIC WORKS – STORMWATER DIVISION
  Salary: $20.42 Per Hour

Minimum Training & Experience

A high school diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year of college.  Requires two years working on a crew with increasing supervisory responsibilities or closely related experience. The equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered.

A valid Driver's License is required. Must obtain Class A permit within 3 months of hire and a Class A license within 6 months of hire.

 

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
• Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of streets, curbs, and other asphalt/concrete structures.
 
• Ability to safely and skillfully operate equipment necessary for construction, maintenance, and repairs.
 
• Ability to thoroughly inspect work in progress for compliance with specifications, plans, and standards of quality and safety.
 
• Ability to ensure safety on the job site for employees and the public.
 
• Ability to read and interpret technical materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job.
 
• Ability to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations.
 
• Ability to organize and prioritize daily assignments and work activities.
 
• Ability to train, assist, motivate, and supervise a work crew, offer instruction and advice to subordinates regarding departmental policies, methods, and regulations.

• Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other.
 
Specific Duties
• Supervises crews in the stormwater division.
 
• Plans and schedules work assignments, including the establishing performance standards for work crews, directing the utilization of equipment, conducting periodic counts of new homes occupancy, and designing routes to balance the workloads.
 
• Interacts with subordinates, tenants and the general public; initiates personnel actions, including counseling subordinates on work related problems, preparing performance appraisals, recommending disciplinary actions, submitting accidents and injury reports, scheduling subordinates for time off.
 
• Performs problem solving regarding requests and complaints from subordinates, employees and general public.
 
• Operates a vehicle; performs vehicle inspections; transports inventory to various locations, etc.
 
• Conducts building inspections, equipment inspections, maintenance on equipment such as plugs, cords, switches, motor repair and replacements..
 
• Oversees the maintenance of pumps and wet wells.
 
• Supervises sewer crews and ensures quality customer service is provided; prevents sewer backups; and maintains the sanitary sewer system.
 
• Enters data into the computer system.
 
• Operates heavy and medium equipment (backhoe, forklift, dump trucks, water machine, tv truck and tractor mowers).
 
• Performs all other duties as may be assigned to meet organizational needs.
