Minimum Training & Experience

A high school diploma or GED supplemented by 7-10 years of Commercial HVAC service experience. A Universal Technician Certification is required. The equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered.

A valid driver’s license is required.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
• Knowledge of principles and practices of the HVAC trade.
• Knowledge of methods, tools, and materials in the repair and maintenance of air conditioning and chiller systems and pumps.
• Knowledge of safety precautions common to mechanical work.
• Working knowledge of computers and P.C. based energy management systems.
• Skill in the use of electronic testing equipment and tools.
• Ability to diagnose AC problems and determine the time and materials required to cause the repair.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical blueprints and to follow written and oral directions.
• Ability to run copper piping and PVC
• Ability to understand refrigeration recovery, evacuation and charging, understands the installation and sizing of refrigerant piping.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the public.
• Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers.  Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills.
Specific Duties
• Responsible for servicing products and equipment on assigned projects and ensuring customer satisfaction.
• Performs repairs, overhauls, and start-ups of commercial HVAC systems.
• Maintain heaters, chillers, pumps, coolers, freezers, kitchen equipment and fan coil units etc.
• Monitor and adjust all mechanical/pneumatic equipment, control gauges, distributor panels, valves, thermostats, diffusers and other equipment necessary to provide a comfortable and compliant environment for the buildings.
• Uses a variety of hand tools, following blueprints, wiring diagrams, piping schemes or engineering specifications, to diagnose and repair units.
• Performs preventative maintenance, site surveys, replacement, and modifications as needed or requested by customers.
• Prepares for on-site installation and repairs by examining building layout, anticipating difficulties, gathering materials and coordinating on-site work as necessary.
• Maintain maintenance records as required by City, State, and EPA regulations.
• Makes recommendations on repairs and replacement of equipment. 
• Assists Property Maintenance with projects.
• Prepares purchase orders and maintains inventory of filters and parts.
• Performs all other duties as assigned to meet organizational needs.
