Minimum Training & Experience

Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science degree with college level training in environmental science, chemistry, microbiology, minimum of five years water/wastewater laboratory experience and three years supervisory experience in an water/wastewater environmental laboratory. The equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered.

A valid driver’s license is required.

Specific Duties

• Oversees the completion of all analytical functions in the wastewater laboratory.

• Oversees the collection and analyses of all compliance samples.

• Oversees wastewater laboratory staff.

• Performs data reduction review, data evaluation, validation and interpretation on all analysis records.

• Transcribes data from lab worksheets and contract laboratory reports for monthly reports and data packages; inputs laboratory data in computer.

• Researches and makes recommendations for the procurement of laboratory equipment and instruments; obtains quotes on equipment, instruments, supplies, services and maintenance work, and prepares requisitions.

• Oversees instrument calibration and accuracy checks.

• Oversees the maintenance of lab equipment.

• Handles ordering of lab chemicals and correspond with lab vendors.

• Prepares Request for Proposals (RFPs) for laboratory chemicals and equipment.

• Maintains and writes laboratory vendors’ contracts and correspondences.

• Prepares and implements Wastewater Lab Standard Operation Procedures.

• Creates and maintains report forms for all wastewater laboratory analysis records and other related documents.

• Maintains laboratory safety programs; maintains safety equipment, conducts safety meetings and training as needed.

• Oversees the laboratory certification program. • Handles Wastewater Lab, DHEC audits.

• Coordinates annual Demonstration of Capability (DOC), studies for laboratory staff.

• Prepares and or processes various lab reports and records, audit studies, flow charts, instrument/equipment maintenance reports, certification applications, bench sheets, lab analysis records, monthly statistics, production reports, QA/QC reports, requisitions, charts, logs, SOP’s, training records and schedules.

• Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, coworkers, and other division/department employees, regulatory and government agencies, sales representatives, inspectors, customers, consultants, engineers, and the general public.

• Performs all other duties as may be assigned to meet organizational needs.
