Position: PROGRAM COORDINATOR I - PARKS, RECREATION & TOURISM
  Salary: $16.80-$24.35 Per Hour

Minimum Training & Experience
Graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in recreation, physical education, environmental education, tourism, or related field, and two years of experience in coordinating organized recreational activities.  The equivalent combination of related education, training and related work experience may be considered.  
 
NOTE:  Valid Driver's license and the ability to be certified by the S.C. Recreation and Parks Association are preferred.
 
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
• Thorough knowledge of the basic psychology, techniques, and methodology of organizing groups in a recreation setting.
• Thorough knowledge of various special recreation programs; an ability to lead participants in a variety of activities.
• Considerable knowledge of first-aid methods and necessary safety precautions required in recreation activities.
• Knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of public recreation and the principles and practices of recreation and/or tourism administration.
• Ability to develop partnerships and utilize volunteers effectively.
• Ability to train and supervise seasonal staff and volunteers.
• Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers.  Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills.  
 
Specific Duties
• Coordinates, promotes and evaluates a variety of school field trips, community outreach activities, youth mentorship activities, and other educational and recreation experiences for various ages and underserved populations. 
• May assist with administration, supervision and leadership at various facilities; or may devote a portion of time to the development of partnerships with schools, neighborhoods, city departments and outside organizations. 
• Provides orientation, training, and supervision of staff members, particularly seasonal, part-time, and volunteer workers.  Conducts and participates in staff meetings and presentations, subject to general direction and coordination of the program supervisor.
• Provides technical assistance to recreation superintendent and program supervisor who are responsible for the conduct of citywide recreation and outreach programs, special events and related activities.
• Prepares publicity, marketing and news releases pertaining to assigned area; prepares requests for personnel, materials and supplies; participates in preparation of department budget.
• Drafts activity schedules, program plans and prepares participation reports for assigned area of work.
• Conducts maintenance inspections of recreation facilities and takes necessary action for corrections.
• Plans, coordinates and assists with special events, festivals, exhibits, competitions or similar activities.
• May be assigned to coordinate or assist with programs at the Rock Hill Outdoor Center or other special events, cycling programs, sports tourism, special populations programs, or public information.
• Supervises the upkeep and repair of assigned facilities and equipment.
• Performs all other duties as may be assigned to meet organizational needs.
