Minimum Training & Experience

Practicing attorney at law currently and a member in good standing of the S.C. Bar Association.  Five years experience in the practice of law and a familiarity with the basic procedures of Summary Courts and three years progressively responsible management experience.  The equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered.




Desirable Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities


• Thorough knowledge of criminal law and procedure with particular emphasis on the laws of South Carolina and Code of Ordinances for the City of Rock Hill.
• Knowledge of supervisory, managerial and administrative principles and concepts as it relates to directing and supervising staff.
• Ability to deal tactfully and skillfully with officials, attorneys, prisoners, and others contacted in the course of court operations.
• Ability to practice law competently in a Municipal and appellate setting.
• Ability to maintain organizational standards, develop goals and coordinate the most effective use of personnel.
• Ability to present oral and written opinions, comments, administrative documents, and reports clearly and concisely.
• Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers.  Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills.  


Specific Duties

This list is not exhaustive. • Acts as lead attorney and one of three fulltime prosecuting attorneys for City Court criminal cases. Calls cases on the court docket and actively manages jury trial docket and conducts jury trials. • Serves an in-house legal resource role on specified issues. • Assists with confiscation and forfeiture cases. • Assists with training law enforcement and city employees. • Keeps abreast of changes in laws, rules, and regulations. • Performs administrative and all other duties as may be assigned to meet organizational needs.
